Installing Vista Ahci

Well disturbingly, I couldn't get Vista64 to install on either controller last night, whether it be the SB600 in IDE or AHCI mode or the Promise controller.
Installing Vista Over Xp Pro
After loading drivers and partitioning the drive within Vista set up, when I then select the partition I get a message back sayingsomething along the lines - Windows couldn't determine whether you have a system drive!i.e. It couldn't seem to find the drive. There was also a message along the bottom of the screen telling me to check the bios!Anyone know if bios 1.3 has introduced some problems?I will give it another go tonight with another drive, but this is rather worrying. I've just tried once more to install a fresh copy of Vista64 onto an empty hardrive.
It seems that there is a serious problem with the bios settings. I managed to get Vista install to recognise the HDD and start the install process, but when it reboots the first time it sees the vista disk and asks if I want to boot from it. When no selection it made and looks for a hdd to boot from, it just hangs there. Even when I remove the Vista Disk and reboot, it just hangs.I can't but help feel this issue is related to the bios (1.3). I recently upgraded the bios.
Oh and the SATA SB600 controller was set to IDE mode.All this is on the back of a HDD upgrade where I cloned the old HDD to a new one using ACronis TI11 - the cloned drive would only boot when no other HDD were installed in the computer. I've also recovered a system image onto a different drive with the same effect. Arabic numbers. IT seems to me that the bios recognises the drives and you can set the order for booting, but when it actually comes to the point where it boots from a drive, it will default to any drive but the main system drive to boot from. I confirmed this by installing a second HDD and made sure that it did not have any active partitions.
Doing so resulted in a successful boot.Anyone else had problems installing Vista 64 with the latest published Bios (1.3)?What should I do, install V1.4 or downgrade to an older bios?
